Billionaire American businessman Malcolm Glazer has increased his stake in Manchester United less than 24 hours after John Magnier and JP McManus did the same thing, fuelling rumours of a takeover war between the two camps.

Billionaire American businessman Malcolm Glazer has increased his stake in Manchester United less than 24 hours after John Magnier and JP McManus did the same thing, fuelling rumours of a takeover war between the two camps.

The decision by the Irish pair not to take up the full stake of Dutch media tycoon John de Mol has been seen as a sign they are not interested in buying the club outright but Glazer has moved in swiftly to take up the remaining stock, raising his share ownership from 14.25% to 16.31%.
