Deane vows to fight for West Ham place

Brian Deane has vowed not to be the odd man out in West Ham’s four-man strikeforce.

The 36-year-old made way for substitute Bobby Zamora at Bradford last weekend and also has younger rivals in David Connolly and Marlon Harewood.

But Deane has hit six goals in 10 starts since signing from Leicester and is determined to fight for his place.

He said: “The players that have come in to West Ham are good young players, but I’ve always looked after myself and I’m feeling good.

“It’s turned out to be a good move for me. I’m enjoying my football. I wouldn’t have come if I didn’t think I would be playing, I could have stayed at Leicester.”
