Even the greatest critics of Manchester United’s major shareholders admit some good will come of the demands for greater corporate governance – but they fear it will be at the destruction of the club they love.

United chairman Roy Gardner dispatched the club’s official response to the 99 questions posed by John Magnier and JP McManus yesterday, hoping the answers may lift the pressure being applied by the Irish duo for greater openness in the club’s financial dealings.
