Fergie's son comes out fighting
Alex Ferguson’s son Jason has insisted both he and the Manchester United boss will stand firm in the wake of the current crisis rocking Old Trafford.
Ferguson is at loggerheads with major shareholder John Magnier over ownership rights to racehorse stallion Rock Of Gibraltar and that feud has spilled over into their football relationship.
Magnier and business partner JP McManus have questioned the way in which transfer deals have been carried out by United during Ferguson’s reign.
Jason Ferguson has played a part in several of those moves via his Elite Sports Agency and he too has been dragged into the squabbling.
Ferguson revealed last week that his son has been subjected to “people stealing his mail and his bin-bags and hiding in bushes outside his house“.
Fresh newspaper reports today claim that Magnier would consider suing the United manager for defamation if his name was connected to those allegations.
However, Jason is adamant there will be no backing off by the Ferguson family and has vowed to carry on as normal with his own business matters through Elite.
He told The Sun: “I am very proud of what my father has achieved and I am proud of the way he has done it. He has sweated blood to put Manchester United where it is but I am disappointed to say blood is now being spilt over what is a private matter.
“What has been said about me I know is part of a wider campaign to discredit my dad but I will not let that happen.
“It has been suggested that I am going to walk away because of what has gone on in recent weeks.
“But I can categorically state that I will not and want to say so to end any rumours that might destabilise this company.
“Over the last three years, I have worked too hard to get Elite up and running to walk away because of these allegations.
“I have a great staff here and we have always conducted ourselves in a good and correct manner.
“I have no problem with anything I have done in respect of Elite on any business matters.
“There is going to be an internal inquiry at the club and I welcome that and will co-operate fully with it.
“But the only reason that is taking place is because of these allegations.
“In all his years at the club nothing has been said about any transfers until now because of a private matter.”
