Izzet poised for surprise return

Leicester midfielder Muzzy Izzet could be set for a surprise comeback from injury in next Tuesday’s Barclaycard Premiership clash with Bolton at the Walkers Stadium.

The Turkey international has been sidelined for the past month with an Achilles problem and manager Micky Adams was pessimistic about his chances of returning against Bolton.

But Izzet has been having acupuncture to cure the problem and he will have a further injection in the next 24 hours to determine whether he can return.

Izzet has been sorely missed by Leicester with the injury having occurred immediately after he pledged his future to the club for the remainder of the season.

Izzet said: “I have definitely not ruled myself out of playing against Bolton next week. We will have to see what happens in the next day or so.

“I’ve been having acupuncture and hopefully that will do the trick. I am having an injection into that area that is causing me problems and we are hoping that will help as well.

“This has been a frustrating injury for me. An ultra-sound scan showed nothing and we thought I could get fit for the Chelsea game.

“But as soon as I went out on the training pitch for a run after two minutes I could feel the problem again and it was back to square one.

“Then I had the MRI scan and that showed a slight tear which the ultra-sound scan hadn’t so it has needed rest.

“I really want to get back playing and helping the battle against relegation but I have to make sure I am a 100% right.”

Meanwhile, newcomer Lee Morris is relishing the chance of a return to Premiership action after moving from Derby in a £120,000 (€175,500) deal shortly before the transfer window closed.

Morris had looked set for a return to former club Sheffield United but a delay in the transfer being completed gave Adams the chance to swoop.

Morris, who has signed a two-and-a-half-year contract, said: “Everything had been agreed with Sheffield United, including the personal terms, but there was a hold up and when Leicester came in I knew I had to take the chance to play in the Premiership again.

“It will be a hard battle but Leicester have always be renowned for their fighting spirit and that should stand them in good stead. “
