Scotland stars remember Ally and his army

Rangers manager Alex McLeish (pictured) has paid a glowing tribute to former Scotland boss Ally MacLeod, who died yesterday.

MacLeod, who led his country to the 1978 World Cup finals in Argentina, passed away peacefully at his home in Ayrshire at the age of 72 after suffering from Alzheimer’s Disease.

MacLeod signed McLeish for Aberdeen during his spell at Pittodrie and he will not be forgotten by the Ibrox boss.

“It’s a very sad day,” said McLeish. “Everybody that new Ally knew he had been unwell for some time.

“But he was a great man and he signed me. I know his family very well and I send my condolences to Faye and the family.

“He was enthusiastic on the training ground and he gave everybody a buzz.”
