Villa in dark on Angel injury
Aston Villa will discover in the next 24 hours the extent of the mystery leg injury which has ruled leading scorer Juan Pablo Angel out of the Carling Cup semi final, second leg clash with Bolton.
The Colombian international is to see a specialist after suffering the injury during the first meeting with Bolton at the Reebok Stadium.
Angel scored twice and played the full 90 minutes but he has been unable to take part in training since that game.
It is bad news for O’Leary who needed the firepower of 16-goal Angel to give Villa any realistic hope of overturning a 5-2 deficit.
But he is also sweating over whether the club’s £9.5m (€13.7m) signing has sustained any serious damage which could result in a lengthy spell on the sidelines.
O’Leary told the Press Association: “I don’t know if it involves a nerve but Juan is feeling pain all down the side of his leg and has not been able to do a thing since the match.
“It is a strange one. Our physio doesn’t know what the problem is and the leg just hasn’t responded to treatment that he has been given all week.
“It is a big blow to us to lose a player like Juan especially when you are in the situation that we are in needing goals against Bolton.”
