John Magnier could force Manchester United’s under-pressure directors to answer embarrassing questions about their transfer dealings in public.

The legal war between the major Old Trafford shareholder and manager Alex Ferguson has erupted into a bitter internal dispute today following revelations that Magnier has demanded United chairman Sir Roy Gardner investigates payments made in all recent transfers.
