Rambler Bruton unveiled as new Blue

Manager-less Waterford United have unveiled former Cobh Ramblers favourite Willie Bruton as their first signing of 2004.

The South-east club, who finished a respectable sixth in last season's eircom Premier Division, sacked their manager Jimmy McGeough last month and have been rumoured to be pursuing the services of Republic of Ireland record goalscorer Niall Quinn for the vacant position.

Chairman Ger O'Brien has made it known that further signings are to follow, with a defender possibly on that list in consideration of United's leaking of 58 goals in 36 league games in 2003.

Bruton, 24, spent seven seasons at Cobh and netted 22 league goals in an excellent 2002 season, however injury curtailed his involvement in their last First Division campaign.

"I am delighted to be joining Waterford United," said the striker, who was also capped by Brian Kerr as a Irish U18 international.

"I'm relishing the opportunity of playing in the Premier Division and looking forward already to pre-season training, starting next week."
