Boumsong almost 'signed and sealed'

Auxerre defender Jean Alain Boumsong claims he is set to sign for Rangers later today.

Negotiations between his representatives and the Ibrox club are underway and Rangers are hopeful of securing the France international on a pre-contract agreement.

Boumsong has already claimed he rejected the chance to move to other top European sides – including Liverpool – in favour of Rangers.

And he insists Scottish teams’ disappointment in European competitions over the last few weeks will not prevent him from committing himself to Rangers today.

He told the Scottish Mirror: “I’m hoping to get everything signed and sealed in the next few hours.

“I know Rangers are a top club and they have some excellent international players.

“A few people in France have tried to tell me Scottish football is not so great after Bordeaux beat Hearts and Lyon beat Celtic but I am looking forward to playing in Scotland.

“I hope to have a big year with Rangers next season.”
