Warnock enjoys double celebration

Sheffield United manager Neil Warnock has signed a two-year contract extension with the option of a third year.

Warnock, who put pen to paper today, his 55th birthday, last week ended speculation linking him with the vacancy at Leeds by announcing he was staying put.

And the Sheffield-born boss reaffirmed his commitment at the club's annual meeting at Bramall Lane.

"It is another step on the way to where I want this club to be and shows the directors have faith in me," he told United's official website, www.sufc.co.uk.

"I'd like to repay the faith shown by the supporters and I'm determined to bring continued success to follow last season's exploits.

"It's an enormous challenge, owing to the financial restrictions, but the board and I are determined to give it our best shot."

Warnock had further cause for celebration after being named the Nationwide Division One manager of the month for November.

The Blades have taken 10 points from a possible 15 which has lifted them to third, three points behind leaders West Brom.

Warnock said: "It is a lovely present. It is also four years to the day since I took over at Bramall Lane.

"There were some very tricky games in the month and we have also had to put up with a few significant injuries.

"The award is not just for me but for everyone at the club who are all pulling in the same direction."
