UEFA stand firm with Scots

UEFA today all-but ruled out the possibility of rescinding Christian Dailly’s booking to enable him to face Holland in Amsterdam on Wednesday.

The West Ham defender was shown the yellow card by Norwegian referee Terje Hauge during Saturday’s play-off first-leg victory.

Dailly was cautioned for kicking the ball away and Hauge later admitted that he made a mistake when he realised that the player had genuinely not heard the whistle.

But despite that European football’s governing body insisted there was little chance the decision would be overturned for him to take on Dick Advocaat’s men again.

“We haven’t received any official complaint or protest yet from the SFA,” said a UEFA spokesperson.

“The only possibility of this being overturned is when there is a case of mistaken identity and then you can cancel the yellow card.

“When it comes to a factual decision which is the decision made by the referee then they have no chance.

“They can obviously appeal but the outcome would be quite straightforward.”

But despite this, the Scottish Football Association are still expected to make an appeal on the behalf of the latest addition to their Hall of Fame.

He collected his 50th cap for his country and SFA spokesman Andy Mitchell said: “We will contact UEFA today to see if there is any way an appeal can be lodged.

“We realise there is no proper mechanism for an appeal against a yellow card but we will make the enquiry and see what happens.”
