Longford win FAI Cup

Longford have won the FAI Cup for the first time in their history as they beat St Patrick's Athletic 2-0 at Lansdowne Road today.

Sean Francis gave Alan Matthew's side the lead after 33 minutes, his deflected shot looping over

goalkeeper Chris Adamson.

Just five minutes later Chris Adamson saved a penalty from Longford captain Barry Ferguson.

Adamson guessed correctly and was able to catch Ferguson's poor penalty.

In the second half Longford had further chances to seal their victory and St Pat's frustration boiled over when Keith Fahy was sent off. Fahy's two-footed lunge earned him a straight red card from referee Alan Kelly.

The win for Town was sealed in injury time.

St Pat's pushed everyone - including goalkeeper Adamson - forward and as Longford counter-attacked, Shane Barrett was able to run the ball into an empty net.
