Gallas close to Chelsea return

Chelsea’s French defender William Gallas is set to return to the side for the trip to Birmingham tomorrow night but compatriot Marcel Desailly, the Chelsea captain, misses out.

Both were omitted from France’s Euro 2004 qualifier on Saturday but while Gallas has recovered from a shin injury, centre back partner Desailly still has back problems.
