Ferguson in talks over new United deal

Manchester United chief executive David Gill has confirmed that the club is holding talks with Alex Ferguson about extending his Old Trafford contract.

Gill said he fully expected the United manager to sign a new deal.

"We would like Sir Alex to continue and Sir Alex wants to continue," said Gill.

"We are holding discussions and I'm sure there can be a successful conclusion."

He added on Sky Sports: "We would like Sir Alex to continue. Sir Alex would like to continue so we are holding discussions."

Ferguson signed a three-year deal in 2002 after earlier indicating that he wanted to retire.
