Win over Derry gives UCD hope

Goals from Alan Gallen and John Martin saw bottom-of-the-table UCD narrow the gap on Derry to just two points with a stunning performance at the Brandywell to raise their hopes of avoiding relegation.

Striker Gallen put College in front on 28 minutes when he latched onto Peter Hutton's weak back header to fire past Alan Gough.

The second goal came on 50 minutes when Gallen, looking offside, crossed for the unmarked Martin to finish.

Michael Holt did have the ball in the UCD net but the goal was ruled out for handball.

UCD were the better side throughout and fully deserved their second successive win under new boss Pete Mahon.
