Sacking was 'political' - Palmer
Carlton Palmer believes his sacking as manager of Stockport was a political and not a footballing decision.
Palmer has steered County to just one win in eight games, a run which has seen his side placed fourth from bottom.
The former England international has been in charge at Edgeley Park for nearly two years, but has won just 25 of his 92 matches at the helm, losing 50 of them.
“I’m obviously disappointed. It’s more to do with politics than football, but I don’t want to elaborate,” Palmer said.
“Over the last five matches we’ve won one, drawn three and lost one so on that basis every manager in the First, Second and Third Division should get the sack.
“But I’ve built up a very good young side and the supporters and staff at the club have been fantastic.”
Palmer has also given his backing to assistant manager John Hollins and coach Kevin Richardson, who have been handed control of first-team affairs for the time being.
