Carlisle sack Roddy Collins

Carlisle have today parted company with manager Roddy Collins after a dismal start to the new Division Three campaign.

The Cumbrians have lost their opening four league games of the season and crashed out of the Carling Cup to Walsall.

Experienced midfielder Paul Simpson will take charge on a caretaker-basis, beginning with tomorrow’s game against Cambridge.

A statement released by the club read: “The decision has been very difficult and we respect the effort and time Roddy Collins put in to the club.

“Circumstances prevailed against him and the necessary results to take this club forward were not forthcoming.

“We wish him well in any future ventures and hope his career goes on to improve from here.”

Collins was in charge as the club narrowly avoided relegation last season but he did steer them to a place in the LDV Vans Trophy final against Bristol City at the Millennium Stadium.
