Penalty miss gives Pat's League Cup
St. Patrick's Athletic 1 Longford Town 0
David Freeman was the St. Pat's hero with a late winner as Town skipper Barry Ferguson missed a penalty with literally the last kick of the match in this dramatic League Cup final.
Ferguson was central to the late, late action in this thrilling match when he fouled Keith Fahy on 87 minutes.
Paul Osam's free kick came back off Stephen O'Brien's left-hand post and Freeman was most alert to follow up and sweep home the loose ball.
Then, four minutes into stoppage time, Mbabazi pulled down Eric Lavine to be awarded a penalty.
But sadly for Ferguson the Town skipper shot his spot kick wide as St. Pat's lifted the first trophy of the season.
