Capucho ready for Champions League action

Rangers winger Nuno Capucho has told manager Alex McLeish he will be ready for tomorrow night‘s crucial Champions League qualifier against FC Copenhagen.

The summer signing from Porto has recovered from a hamstring problem after proving his fitness in an Under-21 game at Kilmarnock.

Capucho said: “I feel good if the manager wants me to play. I have been at Rangers one month but the injury stopped me for 10 days.

“My hamstring is fine now and if the manager asked me to play then, of course, I would say yes.

“I need more work to get back to my best condition. I have to train more and play more games but I’m feeling a lot better now. My body will be back to normal by next week.”

Fellow newcomer Henning Berg admits his chances of playing tomorrow are slim although he is confident his match fitness will be sharper for the second leg in Denmark in a fortnight.

He said: “It was another good work-out for me. I needed to play games and it was a good 90 minutes. That was my first full match, so I’m getting closer.

“I played the whole game today, so to go and play such a big game just two days later would be a lot.

“It’s up to the manager and if he asks me I will play but I’m not going to be 100% match-fit.

“I thought the team played well against Kilmarnock on Saturday, so I think he will go with the same players.

“I said before I signed that it would be difficult to be ready for the first leg but I would hope to be ready for the second leg.”
