FIFA slap transfer ban on Roma

World governing body FIFA have imposed an international transfer ban on Roma over an outstanding debt to Peruvian club Sporting Cristal.

The ban could affect the signing from Ajax of Romanian defender Cristian Chivu who was formally unveiled yesterday as the centre piece of Roma’s summer recruitment campaign.

The debt to Sporting Cristal is reported to be €439,000 and relates to the transfer of Gustavo Vassallo Ferrari.

“I can confirm that FIFA has informed AS Roma, via the Italian FA as per standard communication policy, that a ban on international transfers has been imposed on the club until their financial obligations to the Peruvian club Sporting Cristal in relation to the transfer of the player Gustavo Vassallo Ferrari have been met,” a FIFA spokesman said.
