Butt questioned over nightclub assault

Manchester United star Nicky Butt was today questioned by police following allegations that a woman was assaulted in a nightclub.

Police confirmed that a 28-year-old man from Hale, Cheshire, was arrested when he turned up with his solicitor for interview at Wilmslow Police Station.

The Manchester United midfielder was then released on bail without charge, pending further inquiries.

A complaint of assault was made on Sunday, May 4, following an incident at Brasingamen’s nightclub in Alderley Edge, Cheshire.

The alleged incident happened just hours after Butt helped Manchester United beat Charlton 4-1, setting them on course for the Premiership title.

The nightclub is only a few miles from Hale, where Butt lives with his fiancee, Shelley Barlow, 27, in a £1.5 million mock-Georgian house.

The £50,000 a week star has been bailed to return to Wilmslow Police station on June 30.

Manchester United declined to comment tonight.
