Spurs interested in Zamora - agent

Bobby Zamora’s agent admits there “is no point denying” Tottenham’s interest in handing the Brighton hot-shot his ticket to the Barclaycard Premiership.

The Seagulls striker is a long-time Spurs target and Zamora’s representative Phil Smith confirmed the White Hart Lane giants are still in the market for the prolific 22-year-old.

Zamora plundered 56 league goals as the Withdean club stormed to back-to-back Third and Second Division titles in 2001 and last year.

And despite an injury-plagued season this term as Steve Coppell’s side were condemned to relegation from Division One, Zamora – who is under contract until summer 2006 – hit the net 13 times.

Tottenham chief Glenn Hoddle is desperate to find the player to breathe new life into his faltering reign in north London – and is continuing to monitor Zamora.

Smith told the Press Association: “There’s no point denying Spurs are interested.

“Glenn Hoddle’s been to see him play on a number of occasions but it hasn’t progressed at this stage.

“No offers have gone in yet so we’ll see if a big club comes forward and puts an offer in.

“There is interest so now we have to gauge the level of interest and see if it amounts to anything.

“To be totally honest, the top and tail of it is that it will have to be a Premiership club to put together the kind of deal that will take him out of Brighton.

“Common sense dictates that, if Bobby has the chance of playing in the Premier League, that’s better than going back down to Division Two.

“He’s interested in playing in the Premier League and is not looking to leave Brighton to go back to First Division football.”
