Derry secure first win of season

Having pledged his loyalty to the club earlier in the day, Ciaran Martyn came off the bench to score the winner against his former club and give Derry City their first points of the season.

Martyn stabbed home on 64 minutes for the only goal of a drab game after UCD keeper Patrick Jennings could only palm a Sean Friars free kick onto his crossbar.

While Derry had much of the ball, it was UCD who created the better first half chances with new loan signing Dessie Baker coming close on seven and 35 minutes.

Derry upped the tempo after the break and Garry Beckett forced a great save from Jennings with a 25-yard shot three minutes before Martyn struck their winner.
