Michael Owen becomes a father

England striker Michael Owen’s partner Louise Bonsall today gave birth to a daughter.

Gemma Rose Owen, who weighed in at 6lb 8oz, was born at the Countess of Chester Hospital, a spokesman for the couple said.

Ms Bonsall, 23, was admitted to the hospital last night and Owen broke off from training for Liverpool this morning to dash to her bedside.

Both mother and baby were said by the hospital to be “doing well”.

The footballer, who is also 23, said: “This is the most amazing moment of my life. I think I was more nervous than Louise. We are very proud parents and look forward to spending time together as a family.”
