Derry missed a late penalty as they suffered a third successive defeat to remain pointless and joint bottom of the table with UCD.

Ciaran Martyn had the chance to salvage a point on 86 minutes but Drogheda keeper Gary Rogers brilliantly saved his spot kick.

Drogheda hit their match winning lead on six minutes when ex-Derry winger Shaun Gallagher crossed low from the right for Mark Quinless to finish.
