Italian referee Pierluigi Collina will take charge of Manchester United’s Champions League quarter-final second leg against Real Madrid at Old Trafford on Wednesday.

Collina, who officiated in last year‘s World Cup final between Brazil and Germany, will handle the high-profile clash which the Spanish giants lead 3-1 after the first leg, Real confirmed on their official website.

Collina’s appointment could be viewed as a good omen for United; he was the referee when they beat Bayern Munich in the 1999 final at Barcelona‘s Nou Camp Stadium.
