Everton have raised their share of the £155m (€224m) needed for a new stadium at King’s Waterfront in Liverpool.

The Merseyside club have handed documents to regeneration agency Liverpool Vision which they believe proves they can come up with the £65m (€94m) to move the project forward and eventually leave Goodison Park.

The club will put up £30m (€43.5m) themselves with the remaining £35m (€50m) staked by a private partner.

A statement released by the club today said: “Everton Football Club has now made what will come to represent its final submission to Liverpool Vision with regard to the proposed King’s Waterfront project.

“Whilst Everton’s status as preferred developer for the site was not extended beyond the December 31, 2002 deadline, it was always our understanding that, by way of a gentleman’s agreement, we had until March 31, 2003 to show that our funding requirement was in place; this we have now done.

“We now await the observations of Liverpool Vision.”
