Fortune eyes comeback

Quinton Fortune continued his comeback from a groin injury by playing a leading role in Manchester United’s 3-1 reserve team win at Bradford last night.

The South African midfielder, out of contract at the end of the season, set up Daniel Nardiello’s opener after just seven minutes with a left-wing cross and then combined with Jimmy Davis to set up Nardiello’s second.

Although Alex Ferguson is currently on a mini-break in Spain, the Old Trafford chief will welcome news of Fortune’s return to fitness as he looks forward to an intense programme of games during April which will shape United’s season.

Fortune is hoping to clinch a new deal this summer but has been frustrated in his attempts to build on an impressive World Cup campaign by a series of frustrating injuries which have restricted him to just 12 appearances this term.

Phil Neville was also given some much-needed match practice at Valley Parade but it was Nardiello who grabbed the headlines, completing his hat-trick in the final minute.
