United trio doubtful for Cup clash

Ryan Giggs, Paul Scholes and Wes Brown remain Manchester United’s major doubts ahead of Sunday’s Worthington Cup final.

Mikael Silvestre has resumed training after his recent ankle injury and will play against Liverpool in Cardiff, but neither Brown (hamstring), Scholes (groin) or Giggs (thigh) is looking likely to make United’s side.

“Of the three, Paul Scholes has the best chance but they are all worries,” said United boss Alex Ferguson.

“When you get injuries at any time it is disappointing but when they mean you could miss a final it hurts even more.”

South African midfielder Quinton Fortune will play for the reserves against Blackburn tonight, and if he comes through unscathed will be added to the squad.
