Mullins: Eagles are flying high

Midfielder Hayden Mullins has revealed Crystal Palace are still on a high after knocking out Liverpool in the last round.

The Eagles take on Leeds tomorrow afternoon at Selhurst Park and Mullins cannot wait for the FA Cup fifth round.

He said: “The boys have been buzzing ever since. The gaffer won’t need a team talk now because there’s a massive prize waiting for us. Getting into the next round would be absolutely tremendous for us.

“The last two league games we’ve been beaten but we’re flying in the cup.

“I wouldn’t say we’ve proved we’re Premiership material yet because of two games against Liverpool. You have to prove it over a longer period.

“But we’re confident, we’re at Selhurst and we’re going to make it difficult for Leeds.”

Wolves’ assistant manager John Ward expects his side to bounce back from last weekend’s 4-1 humiliation at Brighton.

Boss Dave Jones should have a pair of attackers returning with Nathan Blake (foot), Mark Kennedy and George Ndah (both hamstring) hoping to recover.

Ward said: “We are still smarting from that match because it was a major disappointment – especially in the manner that it happened.

“Everyone has to be geared up for this match against Rochdale and we have to have a controlled reaction.”

But Rochdale striker Clive Platt is out to shoot down his former heroes.

The Wolverhampton-born player said: “My family live two minutes away from Molineux and it’s the first time some of them will have been there. They’re all Wolves fans but for the first time ever they’ll want Wolves to lose.

“Where I lived Wolves were just part of growing up and I remember running inside from playing football in time to see how they got on, that Steve Bull had scored again.”

Stoke striker Chris Iwelumo believes a sell-out crowd at the Britannia Stadium will prove to be an invaluable weapon for the Potters when they host Premiership Chelsea.

He told the club’s official website, www.stokecityfc.co.uk: “The one big thing we have going for us is that we are at home and there is a full house.

“We are going to have 23,000 of our fans behind us and that should give us a real lift.”

Burnley travel to Premiership Fulham tomorrow with veteran goalkeeper Marlon Beresford still harbouring ambitions of a play-off spot.

The former Middlesbrough goalkeeper has finally signed until the end of the season at Turf Moor after struggling through on a month-by-month deal.

Now he wants to celebrate by claiming a Premiership scalp – the ideal way to kick-start Burnley’s promotion hopes.

Beresford told the Lancashire Evening Telegraph: “The aim now is to do as well as I can for the club because there are a lot of big games ahead of us, not just Fulham in the cup.

“There is no way that the league is a lost cause, it is very open at the moment. I know we can improve and we just have to push on.”
