Hargreaves happy at Bayern Munich
England international Owen Hargreaves has pledged his immediate future to Bayern Munich after eventually getting his first goal for the club.
Hargreaves grabbed the opener in Bayern’s 3-0 defeat of Borussia Monchengladbach on Sunday after going 92 games without finding the back of the net.
And he admits an acceptance of coach Ottmar Hitzfeld’s decision to play him as a right wing-back has helped him feel more settled in Bavaria.
"I realised that you can also have a big impact in this position,” the England midfielder said, before admitting he has no plans to leave the German giants before his contract expires in 2006.
"A transfer to England was an issue for me of course, but I have been here for five years and I feel good about it," he insisted.
"I play regularly in one of the best teams in the world – something I should continue.
"My contract runs until 2006, then I can still think about things again. But in the near future I have great aims with Bayern."
As for finally breaking his duck, Hargreaves put it down to a greater willingness to get forward.
"My scoring rate is bad but now I am delighted. In the past (before Munich) I scored a lot of goals," he said.
"Maybe the reason for Sunday’s effort is that I tried to do more offensively. If you aim for something, you will be able to turn into reality."
Hitzfeld was quick to praise his versatile star.
"Owen had a good match on Sunday. I hope the goal pushes him even more. He has been much braver in moving forwards, this way it’s a position he could play more often in the future."
