Midfielder Taylor wants Villa future cleared up
Aston Villa’s long-serving midfielder Ian Taylor is still in the dark as to whether he has a future at the club after this season.
Taylor’s current deal expires in the summer and the 34-year-old, who joined Villa eight years ago from Sheffield Wednesday, has had no discussions over a new deal.
The former Port Vale player would dearly love to stay at the club he supported as a youngster but, if he is to be shown the door, he would prefer to know where he stands so he can make future plans.
Taylor told PA Sport: “We’ve not discussed anything about my future. I’ve only had two games back since recovering from injury so we’ll have to wait and see.
“I don’t know when is a good time but I suppose it will have to be sorted sooner rather than later. Put it this way, it wouldn’t cost a fortune to keep me on.
“I did not have a rise last year when they took up the 12 month option on my contract. But if I’m not going to be here next season, then I’ve got to sort out what I am going to do.
“I hope I’ve got a couple of years left in me if I can keep the injuries at bay. If I can stay fit, then I don’t see a problem.”
Taylor will be unavailable for Tuesday’s trip to Middlesbrough when Villa will be looking for their first away league success of the season.
He will have to serve a one-match suspension after collecting his fifth booking of the campaign in the 1-1 draw at Liverpool a fortnight ago.
