Butt hopes to make United squad for Saturday
Nicky Butt hopes he has done enough to be in Manchester United’s squad for Saturday’s Premiership clash against Chelsea even though he has played only an hour’s football since October.
The England midfielder played in United’s reserves against Sheffield Wednesday at Hillsborough last night and claims he is ready for first-team action.
Butt scored United’s opener in the 2-0 win and said: “I always seem to score in the reserves but don’t get too many in the first team. It is good to be back and to get my first goal was nice.
“It was one of those where you just hit the ball and hope. Most of the time mine go in the stand so it was nice to see it hit the net.”
He added: “It was a case of just going out and giving it all I had, getting into the pace of a game.”
Butt is hoping to make the squad against Chelsea.
“I feel fine but it’s up to the manager and coaches to see how far I am ahead, but I feel good, my ankle seems fine and it is just a case of getting a few games under my belt now.”
