Sukur out for eight weeks with broken leg
Blackburn striker Hakan Sukur faces eight weeks on the sidelines after breaking his leg in a training-ground accident.
The Turkish World Cup star had recently recovered from a groin injury and hoped to make his Rovers debut against Manchester United at Ewood Park this afternoon.
Sukur joined the club from Parma earlier this month.
Blackburn boss Graeme Souness told Radio Rovers: “We’ve had a bit of a nightmare really.
“Hakan Sukur was going to be involved today. He has worked really hard to get his fitness up, he was flying.
“He was going through on goal in a small game we were playing, Jay McEveley came over to challenge him, there’s not been a great deal of contact, but the way the pitches were on Friday, they were frozen underneath, he’s slipped and he’s crushed the top of his tibia.
“It’s an absolute nightmare for him, and a nightmare for us. I’ve worked with the boy before and I was really looking forward to introducing him in the second half of the game today, but it is not to be, we are going have to wait a bit longer.”
