Ray Lewington has been named as Nationwide Division One manager of the month for October after masterminding a revival which has seen Watford climb to fourth in the table.

The Hornets picked up 12 points during the month after winning four of their five matches, with their only setback coming with a 3-0 defeat at Gillingham.

The award is a boost for the Vicarage Road outfit and is made even more impressive by the fact that the players and staff agreed to defer 12% of their wages to help raise the monies needed to stave off administration.

Bristol City boss Danny Wilson took the award in Division Two after boasting a 100% record during October.

The Robins, who conceded just two goals all month, have climbed to second in the table and are just a point behind leaders Cardiff.

Wilson pipped Luton manager Joe Kinnear to the award after the Hatters managed 13 points from their five games.

The Division Three prize went to Ian Britton for steering Kidderminster to their highest position in the club’s history.

Four wins from five matches took the Harriers up to second and Britton, who took over in March following the departure of Jan Molby, paid tribute to his squad.

He said: “Getting the Nationwide manager of the month award is magic but it is the players who have got to take the plaudits.

“It is their hard work that has helped us to our highest league position in our history.

“I don’t have a backroom team, there is just me and the physio. We get our heads down and get on with it.”
