Derry celebrate Cup win - report
Shamrock Rovers 0 Derry City 1
The mercurial Liam Coyle worked the oracle again as Derry City lifted their third FAI Cup with a rousing win in front of their delirious fans at Tolka Park.
Coyle struck for the only goal 90 seconds into the second half. Ciaran Martyn sliced a shot from a Sean Friars corner and Coyle was in the right place at the right time to turn and shoot past Tony O'Dowd.
David Kelly then missed a sitter within two minutes when firing wide after a slip by Greg Costello laid the ball on a plate for him.
Rattled, Rovers struggled to get back into the game as Derry won the midfield battle - with captain Eamonn Doherty outstanding - as they also defended superbly.
James keddy should have leveled on 63 minutes but incredulously headed wide from Stephen Grant's cross while Shane Robinson had a shot cleared off the line in stoppage time.
