Charles Koppel has admitted Wimbledon will not be playing in Milton Keynes by their Boxing Day deadline.

The Dons chairman planned to build a temporary 12,000-seater stadium at the Milton Keynes Bowl ready for the Division One match with Watford on December 26.

But he admitted today that would be impossible now that the Football League have requested further information about the proposal.

Koppel said in a statement: “Whilst this is disappointing news for everyone involved the temporary stadium is not a project that we are prepared to rush or compromise on.

“The safety and comfort of spectators at the stadium is paramount and we need to make sure that everything is right before we open our doors in Milton Keynes.

“The Dons are coming to Milton Keynes and we will achieve this move as soon as we possibly can.”
