West Brom defender Igor Balis is awaiting the approval of a work permit before he can tie himself to the club for the rest of his career.

The Slovakian wing-back agreed a new two-year deal at the start of the season - the Baggies’ first in the Premiership – but is waiting for the red tape to be cleared up before he can settle down at The Hawthorns.

“I really want to stay at Albion – I have agreed to stay here and hopefully I will,” the 32-year-old defender told the club’s website, www.wba.co.uk.

“But anything can change in football and I’ll just have to wait and see what happens with the work permit.”
