Weir reiterates decision to leave Scots' squad
Everton defender David Weir has underlined his decision to opt out of Berti Vogts’ Scotland squad by announcing it is for the “foreseeable future.”
It was initially thought his decision only applied to the forthcoming game with Iceland on October 12, and followed Weir’s annoyance with Vogts’ public criticism of his performance against the Faroe Islands recently.
But Weir, left out of Everton’s Worthington Cup win last night at Wrexham with a bruised hamstring according to boss David Moyes, is now unlikely to be involved in Scotland squads for some while.
Weir, who has 37 international caps, said: “I have decided not to make myself available for selection for the Scottish national team for the foreseeable future.
“My reasons for making this decision have been fully explained in a letter I have written to the SFA.
“However, I will, of course continue to wish the team all the very best for the future.”
