Hamann back for Reds

German midfielder Dietmar Hamann - suspended for the Champions League draw with Basle in midweek - is expected to return for Liverpool’s trip to Manchester City.

Vladimir Smicer (broken toe), Gregory Vignal, who twisted an ankle in Thursday’s reserve defeat at Middlesbrough, and long-term injury victim Vegard Heggem are the only players unavailable to boss Gerard Houllier.

The Anfield chief must decide whether to rest players with Wednesday’s home Champions League clash with Spartak Moscow in mind.
