Ferdinand's Leeds return hit by violence
Eleven people have been arrested during sporadic outbreaks of violence before and after the match between Leeds United and Manchester United.
West Yorkshire Police and Leeds United had implemented their highest level security plan for the game after predictions that home fans would react angrily to the return of Manchester United centre back Rio Ferdinand.
Ferdinand was returning to Elland Road for the first time since his £30 million move across the Pennines earlier this summer.
A spokeswoman for the force says there were pockets of violence around the ground before and after kick off.
She said: "There were sporadic outbreaks but everything has now been sorted out. Throughout the whole thing 11 people were arrested for offences including breaching the peace and being drunk and disorderly."
The spokeswoman says damage had been reported to one coach.
Ferdinand, who was rumoured to have had personal bodyguards for his return trip, was booed throughout the match by a section of Leeds fans.
Leeds won 1-0.
