Tottenham completes Keane transfer

Tottenham have completed the £7m (€15m) transfer of Robbie Keane from Leeds.

Keane, who has been given the number 22 shirt, could be at White Hart Lane for up to six years.

He has signed an initial four-year contract with an option for a further two taking the deal up to £7m (€15m)

Keane will be paraded before the start of today’s Premiership home clash with Southampton although he is not eligible to play today.

The signing will increase competition for places up front where he will be challenging Teddy Sheringham, Les Ferdinand, Steffen Iversen and Sergei Rebrov for a place in the team.

Keane had a good World Cup this summer scoring important goals for the Republic of Ireland against Germany and Spain.

Hoddle had been linked with Real Madrid striker Morientes, Barcelona’s Rivaldo, Lazio’s Hernan Crespo and Sunderland hitman Kevin Phillips.

But, with the transfer window deadline looming, he has managed to clinch a deal for Keane.
