Alpay out to make Villa pay

Alpay has rounded on Aston Villa after the club released details of his wage demands.

He has handed in a transfer request ahead of the opening game against Liverpool on Sunday, knowing the new window closes on August 31.

Villa revealed that Alpay was looking for a 50% increase on his current deal and they would not meet that request.

He responded angrily to that statement, telling the Birmingham Evening Mail. "They could have offered to make me the highest paid player in the UK and I still wouldn't have signed.

"It's not the answer and isn't good enough for me because of the way they treated me last year.

"They are making these statements to try and get the supporters to turn against me.

"That is their whole approach to me. After our meeting we said we would not speak to the press and would keep everything in-house.

"But everything was announced on national television, so now we know who keeps secrets and who doesn't."

Alpay says he wants to move as he was unhappy at the way they treated him during a six-month battle to regain his fitness.

However he was at pains to stress his liking for the manager and the supporters.

He said: "I'm really sad to leave Graham Taylor. His approach is like a father's approach to his son and I respect him very much. He cares about me and respects me.

"I really want to play this weekend to prove that I am loyal to Graham Taylor and to the supporters who treat me as a family member. I will not let the manager or Aston Villa down while I am still here.

"At the moment, I can't see me going back on this. I have absolutely nothing lined up. I'll just have to wait and see what happens."
