Jonatan Johansson and Jon Fortune sealed a victory for Charlton in a pre-season friendly at Roots Hall.

The Premiership outfit were on the back foot early on and in the eighth minute Republic of Ireland goalkeeper Dean Kiely was forced to make a smart double save, denying Kevin Maher second time around.

Johansson fired wide for the Addicks before England Under-21 full-back Paul Konchesky’s free-kick was pushed wide by Darryl Flahavan.

There were nine minutes to go to half-time when the opening goal came from Johansson, who headed in from close range following a corner.

It was another flag-kick that proved the Shrimpers’ undoing in the 63rd minute when Fortune rose to nod Claus Jensen’s kick past Flahavan.

Mark Rawle almost halved the deficit late on but new signing Gary Rowett cleared off the goalline.
