Birmingham optimistic of holding Purse

Birmingham City chairman David Gold is ‘‘optimistic’’ that former skipper Darren Purse will sign a new contract with the Premiership newcomers.

Purse twice rejected new deals during last season and was relieved of the captain’s armband by the then new manager Steve Bruce.
