McCarthy hoping to hold onto McAteer

Jason McAteer celebrates his birthday today with Republic of Ireland manager Mick McCarthy insisting he is too young to hang up his international boots at 31.

Sunderland midfielder McAteer said last week that he was considering retiring from international football after the World Cup in a bid to prolong his club career.
