Keane criticises World Cup drug testing

Irish striker Robbie Keane has criticised the World Cup organisers for the manner in which they conduct random drug tests after matches.

The 21-year-old Dubliner had to provide a urine sample after Ireland’s 3-0 win over Saudi Arabia - the second time in a week he was randomly selected.

As a result, he was unable to join his team-mates in their immediate post-match celebrations after the biggest victory of his international career.

Kevin Kilbane was also randomly selected.

"I was called over straight after the final whistle - I didn’t even get time to go into the dressing room with the rest of the lads," Keane said.

"It was demoralising. Everyone was going up to their families and I was stuck behind with Kevin away from it all. You play football to enjoy moments like that and that was taken away from us."
