The FAI have announced they will launch an independent external review of the squad's involvement in the World Cup following the competition.

The review will mainly focus on the events in Saipan which led to captain Roy Keane's explusion from the team.

Pressure has come to bear on general secretary Brendan Menton since the debacle in Saipan, specifically in regard to there being no major FAI presence on the island when the controvesy erupted.

Menton and FAI President Milo Corcoran issued a statement this morning which read: "Irrespective of the outcome of the team's remaining participation in World Cup 2002, the Officers and General Secretary of the FAI are recommending to the Board of Management that an independent external review of the Association's organisation and involvement in the World Cup be undertaken upon our return to Ireland."

Results of the review will be made public.
