Mick McCarthy has praised the attitude of the Republic of Ireland players who are not likely to figure in the World Cup, and said they will play a big part in the team’s success.

The Ireland boss used 14 players in Saturday’s opening Group E clash with Cameroon, and the likelihood is that four or five of his 22-man squad will not feature in these finals.
